Mentioned by Becker as evangelist without formal training who worked in Windhoek (in the Damara congregation) until he was discharged during the IWW because of illness AELCRN\ELCRNArchivVIII2.3AErhebung1918u1930 p. 41, Pönnighaus describes in his report about a trip over all the farms in his district ("Erlebnisse und Erfahrungen auf Evangeliumsfahrten in Süd-West (Fortsetzung)"), dated September/October 1925, about his evangelists Daniel Vries and Michael Wimmer. The intimate relationship between the missionary and "his" evangelists and the distinct dependancy of the missionary on the Evangelist´s service is well documented in this account of this tour over farms and to settlements in the South of Windhoek. The evangelists celebrated the services with the missionary, helped examining baptism candidates, collected membership fees, did the cooking and were needed in many of the essential tasks which formed part of the tedious and physically demanding toil of a long journey in an oxwagon.2 Daniel Vries (der "alte Evangelist") and Hendrik Cooper are sick for two month in 1925. Pönnighaus writes: "Die kalte Zeit hat ihnen bei ihrem schweren Dienst Gelenkrheumatismus gebracht."3 Married: Children: Education: Other family members connected to RMG: Stefanus Vries attended the so called "second course" for teachers and Evangelists of Vedder at the Augustineum from 16.07.1926 (its actual commencing date) till the end of the teachers course on the 21.06.1929 and was send as a teacher to Berseba.4 Ein Grabmal auf dem Friedhof in Rehoboth erinnert an Petrus Vries (geb. 01.11.1895, gest. 04.12.1960).
